The first step to increasing the level of rigor in science classrooms involves identifying and implementing instructional strategies that will address Ohio Department of Education's Cognitive Demands for Science, including Recalling Accurate Science and Interpreting and Communicating Science Concepts. Attend this professional development session to: Examine Webb's Depth of Knowledge (DOK) levels and Hess' Science Cognitive Rigor Matrix (CRM) applied to science standards; Understand how ODE's Science Cognitive Demands and DOK/CRM are related; Engage in Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI) experiences that will focus on using investigative scenarios, real-world data and valid scientific information to improve students' abilities to explain phenomena.
