About this Event

What:
Preparing for the Test of Life: Becoming a 21st Century Problem Solver
Presented by Brian Pete
When:
June 9, 2017
8:30am-3:30pm
Where:
Summit ESC
Room 16
Why:
We believe that to make a difference in students’ lives, beyond the test, we must focus on the skills that they will need today, tomorrow and forever. It is imperative that we are teaching students explicitly how to think - to analyze critically, to hypothesize with confidence, to clarify with purpose, to make inferences that matter if they are truly college and career ready.
Teaching problem-solving skills is especially imperative as student face the challenge of the 21st Century. Moving toward relevance in the curriculum that uses 21st Century, real-world applications, student inquiry models are front and center-problem-based, project, and service learning experiences are among the most frequently cited.
It’s effective to get started with tools already familiar to teachers today: graphic organizers, essential questions, rich and relevant content, rigorous thinking skills, digital-rich tools for searching and researching, collaborative team work and presentation skills.
Teachers will leave this session with 10-15 strategies that they can implement into their classroom instructional repertoire the very next day!
