Summit ESC to Sponsor Opportunity for Educators to Develop Teaching Strategy for AP Classes

Posted: 4/19/2018

UPDATE: This event has been cancelled

The Summit Educational Service Center (ESC) will offer a unique professional development (PD) opportunity throughout the week of Aug. 6 at Ashland University to all educators in the community.

The PD seminar series, called AP Week, will feature various experts on AP (advanced placement) courses who aim to support teachers as they develop their instructional strategies. The events of AP Week will also promote collaborative discussions related to the way teachers can contact and support students in these courses.

“The purpose is for teachers who teach AP classes to exchange ideas and strategies,” said Angela Terella, the Summit ESC educator quality consultant. “This will be a beneficial opportunity for colleagues to exchange ideas of how to teach AP classes and prepare students for the exams.”

The tentative schedule for AP Week will feature a speaker on each day of the week addressing a different AP course, including Linda Zins-Adams (World Languages) on Aug. 6, Mark Tomecko on Aug. 7, Carole Katz (Math) on Aug. 8, Lisa Milano (English Language Acquisition) on Aug. 9 and Brittany Anderson (Environmental Science) on Aug. 10.

“Each seminar will feature a brief overview about the particular AP subject’s exam, syllabus design and other ideas relating to the subject,” said Terella. “Teachers will be able to pitch and develop strategies surrounding the individual disciplines.”

The events will run from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day.

“We are looking forward to this seminar series and hope that many teachers will join us for discussion,” said Superintendent Joe Iacano. “AP courses give students an edge in the applicant pools of highly selective colleges and universities, making it vital for teachers to know the best methods for student success.”

Registration is mandatory and no refunds will be available. To register for a session or for the full seminar series, visit If you have any questions, please contact Holly Schmunk by email at
